10 Reasons to Visit Providenciales

Reason 1: The BeachThe Beach.

Because the Turks and Caicos are coral islands, our sand is powdery and light. Volcanic islands typically have coarse hard sand that isn't much fun.  See the Beaches on Providenciales page for more information.

Reason 2: We're NearbyWe're Nearby.

Just a few hours, in fact, from the east coast. There are direct, usually daily, flights from several major US cities including Miami (90 minutes), Atlanta, Charlotte, Boston, Philadelphia and New York (3 hours).  Visit our Flights to Providenciales page and our Providenciales International Airport page for more information.

Reason 3: We have the 3rd largest reef.We have the 3rd largest reef in the entire world.

The Turks and Caicos are geographically unique. The Caicos Banks is an undersea pillar that rises thousands of feet from the deep to within 30-50 feet of the surface. The islands themselves are simply higher risings. This bank is almost surrounded by a treacherous reef that has sunk hundreds of boats and ships, including the oldest ship ever found in the Western hemisphere in 1513. This bank also makes the inshore waters calm and welcoming.  Interested in Diving?  We have information on diving in Providenciales.

Reason 4: We're smallWe're small, but not too small.

We only welcome around 200,000 a year, compared to crowds the other destinations process. You'll feel that you're receiving personal attention everywhere you go!  But, that doesn't mean there's nothing to do!  Find out about the selection of land sports and water sports on Providenciales.

Reason 5: You can drive hereYou can drive here.

Compared to some destinations, the Turks and Caicos are both large and relatively unpopulated. You can rent a car from several companies, and the roads aren't congested. If you like exploring, there's several deserted beaches that reached only by 4x4 jeep, which are easily rented here.  Check out our page on renting a car on Providenciales.

Reason 6: The temprerature's rightThe temperature's right and it doesn't rain much.

Temperatures on Providenciales stay pretty constantly in the 70s and 80s. The sun is also intense and very hot so you won't be freezing at the beach. Nighttime temps dip slightly, so you can cool off after a hot day. Providenciales also receives little rain, and most comes in rain storms. There aren't annoying drizzles everyday, and it's not humid here very often.  Find out the best times to visit Providenciales.

Reason 7: Your friends haven't been hereYour friends haven't been here.

Why travel to the same tired old places with the rest of the crowd? Especially when the alternative is Providenciales! What more can we say?

Your favourite celebrities haveReason 8: Your favorite people have.

For such a small place, you'd be surprised who visited. The list includes Mel Gibson, Donna Karan, Ben Affleck, Madonna, Donatella Versace, Bruce Willis, Keith Richards, Greg Norman and Bill Gates. Paul McCartney once spent a month docked offshore Providenciales in his yacht.

Reason 9: We use your money. We use your money.

In the Turks and Caicos, we don't use some weird colourful currency with dubious values and exchange rates. We use the US Dollar. Most hotels, restaurants and shops also accept credit cards. If you're coming from the United States, you won't have the hassle of exchanging currency, and you won't pay expensive FOREX charges on your credit card bill.  Check out our facts and figures page for more Providenciales practical information.

We're BritishReason 10: We're British.

The Turks and Caicos are part of the remaining British Empire , with a British governor, the Union Jack on our flag, and a stable, democratically-elected government. We've never had a revolution or coup d'etat and we have never assassinated our Governors or politicians. We also speak and write English. Just one less thing to worry about on your holiday.   Read about the history of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
