Boats of all types are at home in the crystal-clear waters
surrounding Providenciales and the Turks and Caicos. |
Providenciales has some great saltwater fishing, for all age and skill
levels. Several companies operate fishing vessels with captains who know
the waters.
Types of Fishing
Sport Fishing
Try your hand at catching the big ones! Travel a few miles offshore to
the deep waters off Providenciales and cast your large rods. Then, when
you get a bite take a seat in the big chart and begin the fight. It's
not unusual to catch a fish that weighs more than you do!
Bone Fishing
Bone Fishing is the Caribbean version of fly-fishing. South of Middle
Caicos are huge shallows, where is the water is only a few feet deep.
This is perfect bone fish territory. Several operators here charter
shallow-draft bone fishing vessels for a day of fun. Bone fish, although
small, put up a big fight when hooked. Unfortunately, they are also bony
and inedible, so don't plan on eating your catch for dinner.
Bottom Fishing
If you're looking for dinner or want fun for the whole family, Bottom
Fishing is for you. Cast off of reefs and shallows for prime eating fish
like snapper and grouper. Some restaurants, like Gilley's at Leeward
Marina, will clean and cook your catch for dinner!
