The Grace Bay Club on world-famous Grace Bay beach is
Providenciales' oldest and most prestigious resort. |
There is a wide range of accommodation in Providenciales, from
budget hotels to luxury resorts.
Choosing where to stay
There are three main factors to consider when deciding where to stay;
Location, Price and Type of Accommodation.
Location
The main hotel, resort, and tourist centre is Grace Bay, with a smaller
area located in Turtle Cove.
Grace Bay is where our world-famous beach is located and is close to the
majority of tourist-related shops and services. Most accommodation
is located here, and most of the hotels and resorts are directly on the
beach, but some, such as Comfort Suites, are located inshore and are a
short walk away. None are located without of walking distance of
the beach (The furthest from the beach is Comfort Suites, which is
approximately 400 yards.).
Turtle Cove is a marina, with a few restaurants and tourist oriented
shops. Two hotels are located here, including the good budget hotel
Turtle Cove Inn, which is an excellent value. Turtle Cove was the
original development area on Providenciales, and today is the main marina with
dozens of yachts docked up at any time. It is much harder to get
to the beach from any hotel in Turtle Cove than even the inshore hotels
in Grace Bay, and the beach itself is not as good, although this is
where Smith's Reef is located, an excellent snorkeling area.
The final few hotels are scattered around the island, such as near the
airport. These are generally not recommended for tourists, being
suitable
only suitable for business visitors with a short stay.
Accommodation Prices
Accommodation in the Turks and Caicos,
including Providenciales, is more expensive than the
equivalent in the United States. Prices per night range from $95
(Turtle Cove Inn) to $975 (The Tuscany in Grace Bay) for hotels and
resorts. Villas are generally rented by the week (negotiable), and
range from $1200 to $5200.
There is a 10% Government tax on top of all rates, and there may be
additional charges.
Types of Accommodation
Providenciales offers three main types of accommodation.
All-Inclusive Resorts include Beaches
and Club Med. A high daily rate includes both the room and all-you-can
eat food and drink. Most resort activities are included, but motorized
sports, horseback riding, golf or diving are extra.
Hotels and Resorts provide the
majority of rooms on Providenciales. Several are actually condominiums
in which the rooms are owned by an individual and rented, but function
as a hotel.
Rental Villas or rental homes are popular with
large groups or for extended stays. Despite the name, several villas can
be rented by the room, albeit without the usual hotel staff or
amenities.
